As the United Arab Emirates (UAE) transitions from spring to summer, residents are advised to brace for rapid weather changes and embrace the warmer days that lie ahead. Meteorological experts caution that this period brings about swift fluctuations in atmospheric pressure, characteristic of the early stages of spring.
Insights from Meteorological Expert Dr. Ahmed Habib
Dr. Ahmed Habib, a climate expert from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), sheds light on the phenomenon, explaining that during this period, the Siberian high-pressure system weakens, leading to the passage of low-pressure systems moving from west to east. These conditions may result in increased cloud cover and potential rainfall in specific regions.
Anticipating the Summer Solstice and Rising Temperatures
As the sun’s position gradually ascends in the UAE and the broader Northern Hemisphere, it is expected to reach its zenith near June 21 during the summer solstice. This astronomical event marks the onset of summer and the longest day of the year. With summer anticipated to begin around June 22 or 23, temperatures are expected to rise gradually over the following days and weeks.
Dr. Habib further explains that as the sun’s movement progresses northward towards the Cancer orbit, daylight hours will increase in the northern hemisphere, accompanied by a gradual rise in air temperatures across most regions of the country.
Humidity levels are predicted to decrease slightly in April compared to March, with chances of fog and mist formation in the first half of the month. However, these conditions are expected to lessen in the latter half of April.
Reflecting on previous observations, Dr. Habib notes that while recorded temperatures were not exceptionally high last year, humidity levels remained significant throughout the year. Looking ahead, humidity is expected to persist in certain inland and coastal regions of the UAE, with partly cloudy to fair weather forecasted for the upcoming weekend and beyond.
- Meteorological efforts, including cloud seeding operations, continue to influence weather patterns in the UAE.
- The unique climate of the UAE presents opportunities and challenges across various sectors, emphasizing the need for sustainable solutions.
- Investing in renewable energy sources like solar power and promoting energy efficiency can help address the rising energy demands during peak summer months.
